Davis Family Takes the Back to School Shopping Challenge

Davis FamilyAlthough it will be several more weeks before students in Huron return to the classroom, three local families have already started thinking about the upcoming school year. These families have accepted the Back to School Shopping Challenge and will endeavor to find as much of the clothing and supplies their students will need right here in Huron.

In the coming weeks, Huron NOW will introduce the families who have taken the Challenge and track their progress. This week the focus is on the Tim and Emily Davis family.

Tim and Emily have three children: Mason is entering fifth grade at Madison, Aly will be a second grader at Madison and Claire is entering kindergarten at Buchanan.

Emily Davis admits to being apprehensive when her family was asked to participate in the Challenge.

“I realize I may not find everything we need locally, but Huron is my hometown and I believe in supporting our community. When we were approached about the Challenge, I couldn’t say no.”

Davis says she understands the importance of shopping in Huron and supporting local merchants.

“Our family has always done most of our shopping in town. We are fortunate to have several options in Huron and we don’t want any of those to go away.”

The Back to School Shopping Challenge, along with the Huron Chamber & Visitor Bureau’s “Be a Lucky Duck-Shop Huron and Win” campaign, are designed to educate residents about all the goods and services available in Huron and how shopping locally benefits the entire community.

Watch the Plainsman, the Huron Now and Here in Huron blogs and listen to Performance Radio for updates on all of the families who have accepted the Back to School Shopping Challenge.
