Registration is now open for the 34rd annual Andy’s Road Race, Bike Ride and Harvey Gleich Memorial Walk, which will be held Saturday, September 5, at Memorial Park in Huron.
The road race, named after a former Huron track coach Andy Kleinsasser, is divided into various age groups running the 5K and 10K races. There is also a 5K fun walk and 5- and 23-mile bike rides for participants of any age and fitness level. For the younger kids, there is a fun run for elementary children (no registration fee required).
Again this year, the 5K fun walk honors the memory of long-time Andy’s participant and supporter Harvey Gleich. Proceeds raised from walker registrations will be donated to the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation in Gleich’s name. Last year, the event raised more than $1,200 for the PKD fund.
The event will again be held during the State Fair and again this year all participants will receive a free one-day gate pass to the Fair. The SD Beef Council will also be on-hand to support Team Beef runners and hand out free beef jerky to participants. Medals will be awarded to top finishers in each division of the 5K and 10K races.
The 5K/10K race will be chip-timed by AllSportsCentral. Early-bird registration for the run or bike ride is $25 until July 28 and $30 until Aug.18. Registration received between August 19 and September 1 is$35. Walker registration is $30 and includes a donation to the PKD Foundation. Registration fee includes refreshments and a performance t-shirt. Businesses interested in a sponsorship or a corporate rate for employee participants should contact Kim Rieger at 605-353-6573.
